I finally decided to try a change of hairstyle. The long hair took time to maintain, and occasionally got in the way. So the day after my 30th birthday, I went to get a haircut. My friend Colleen came along to take these pictures and lend moral support. I donated my hair to Locks of Love, so I figure some little girl with cancer will get my hair. Or, as one friend put it, I have so much that three little girls will get my hair.
Lots of hair salons will give you a free haircut in exchange for the donation of your hair. Great Clips in Buffalo was close by, and is offering that deal, so I went there.
There was so much hair, the girl took it in two bundles. I think she could have gotten more length if she'd bound it higher up on my head, but I guess I'll just keep that in mind for next time. Colleen was agonizing over me cutting it so short, but she liked it in the end.
Here's what it looked like just after I had it chopped, intermediate to it being short all over. I think I look like a roundhead in this picture. Definitely not the look for me.
I got my beard trimmed while I was there, and it came out looking reasonably good, if a bit frizzy. I rather liked the curl it had when it was longer, but unfortunately it never gets quite thick enough to look good when I let it get longer.
